Towel I
This eye catching sculpture depicts a discarded towel on the floor and has been carved and chiselled by hand from a single block of raw white limestone. A unique piece by the British artist Roger Denton, here Denton reinterprets an everyday object, drawing the viewer in and toying with our sense of time and permanence. The resulting work appears both delicate and grounded, inviting engagement on a tactile and visual level.
Denton studied art in the UK and has recently returned after a long stint in the USA where he exhibited and was commissioned widely. One of his larger works is on display as a piece of public art in the Franklin district of Nashville.
