Nude, John David Ferguson

£1,150.00

‘Nude Resting on a Chair’ by John David Ferguson (b.1932 -2019). Ferguson’s work often included measurement marks as seen here, where the gentle soft palette provides a calm context for these workings and the resulting linear strokes. This large artwork displays a pleasing interplay between the sculptural form of the model and the methodical process of the artist.

Ferguson studied at the West of England College of Art, Bristol, and at the Slade School of Fine Art under notable tutors Sir William Coldstream and William Townsend, both of whom had a profound influence on his work. He was born in Buxton, Derbyshire but was drawn to the west country, first for studying and then again to become Head of Fine Art at UWE Bristol, finally settling in Pendeen, Penzance, Cornwall. His works are held in various collections including the Arts Council, Southbank Centre, UCL Gallery, the Government Art Collection and Bristol City Art Gallery.
