Limestone Shell
A large sculptural shell formed by hand from a single block of solid stone. This beautiful and tactile work has been carved and chiselled in raw white limestone which has a luminous quality to it. The hand of the artist is evident throughout and the textured surface creates shadows that highlight the craft and method involved. A unique piece by the British artist Roger Denton, perfectly demonstrating his ability to blend sophistication and simplicity in his use of natural materials.
Denton studied art in the UK and has recently returned after a long stint in the USA where he exhibited and was commissioned widely. One of his larger works is on display as a piece of public art in the Franklin district of Nashville.
