Bristol Cityscape

£550.00

A Bristol cityscape by British artist John David Ferguson (b.1932 -2019). Ferguson’s work often carried lots of measurement markings, showing his process of construction in the composition. His work was heavily influenced by his tutor at the Slade, William Coldstream, who taught this method and whose work often displayed the same style of methodical realism. Here Ferguson’s linear marks and shading give an interesting texture to this city landscape. We also have another work of Ferguson’s which depicts Bristol in the same style, which could accompany this piece.

Ferguson studied at the West of England College of Art, Bristol, and at the Slade School of Fine Art under notable tutors Sir William Coldstream and William Townsend, both of whom had a profound influence on his work. He was born in Buxton, Derbyshire but was drawn to the west country, first for studying and then again to become Head of Fine Art at UWE Bristol, finally settling in Pendeen, Penzance, Cornwall. His works are held in various collections including the Arts Council, Southbank Centre, UCL Gallery, the Government Art Collection and Bristol City Art Gallery.
